MAJ Douglas Zembiec

Major Douglas Alexander Zembiec was a distinguished U.S. Marine Corps officer who gave his life in service to his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he served with exceptional courage and leadership throughout his military career. After earning recognition for his actions during the First Battle of Fallujah, he continued serving in combat until he was killed on May 11, 2007, while leading Iraqi soldiers during operations in Baghdad (U.S. Naval Academy Memorial Hall).

Known for placing the welfare of his Marines above his own, Major Zembiec earned the respect of those who served alongside him through his courage, humility, and unwavering commitment to the mission. His extraordinary leadership and heroism were recognized with numerous military decorations, including the Silver Star and Bronze Star with Combat "V," among many other awards (U.S. Naval Academy Memorial Hall).

He is survived by his wife, Pamela, and their daughter, Fallyn. Beyond his military service, Doug was an accomplished wrestler and leader whose legacy continues to inspire Marines, service members, and all who value honor, sacrifice, and selfless service (U.S. Naval Academy Memorial Hall).
